A former Niger Delta Affairs Minister, Elder Godsday Peter Orubebe, has formally joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Orubebe recently resigned membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), saying that the present situation in the party does not inspire confidence that the party is ready to regain power in 2023.
Orubebe, while addressing the Ijaw APC family on Friday, said he joined the ruling to deliver all five candidates, especially three candidates in the Burutu Local Government Area of Delta.
According to him, resources to prosecute the elections will be provided.
He sympathised with the tribesmen over their inability to secure any appointment, and assured them that he would ensure that “what is due for Ijaw people will be secured.”

Comrade Moni Seikemienghan Moni, the APC Local Government Area Chairman in Burutu, in his response, thanked Orubebe for joining the party.
Moni expressed confidence that he (Orubebe), in addition, is a big plus to the party.
He added:
Ijaw Nation now has a high-ranking politician that will stand in the gap.
Orubebe had conveyed his grievance to the opposition PDP in his resignation letter in June.
The letter read in part:
I write to formally inform you of my resignation from the PDP. This I have communicated to the Chairman of Burutu Ward 3, Burutu Local Government Area, Delta State, effective June 20, 2022.
Consequently, I am by this letter intimating you of my total withdrawal from all activities at the ward, local, state, and national levels of the PDP.”
The present situation in the party does not inspire confidence that the party is ready to regain power in 2023. Against the mood of the nation and in complete disregard for the provisions of the party’s constitution, the party, threw the zoning of the Presidency open, which created a situation that led to the emergence of a Northerner as the party’s presidential candiate, thus making the two topmost positions in the party, after your emergence as the National Chairman, to be occupied by Northerners, contrary to Section 7.3(c) of the party’s constitution.
