The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced that it successfully collected a total revenue of N47.4 billion between January and September of this year.
The statement was released by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Kayode Wey, on Tuesday, and it highlighted the achievement during the handover ceremony held at the command’s headquarters in Ibadan, Oyo State. The outgoing Customs Area Comptroller, Babajide Jaiyeoba, shared this information, further noting that the command had also made significant seizures of prohibited goods valued at N308 million within the same nine-month period.
Jaiyeoba proudly pointed out that the command, under his leadership, had exceeded the revenue target set for 2022. He expressed his appreciation to the dedicated officers and staff of the command for their cooperation, professionalism, and resilience. He emphasized that these qualities had been instrumental in achieving the command’s objectives.
In his closing remarks, Jaiyeoba urged all officers within the command to continue working as a unified team, carry out their duties in compliance with the laws governing the service, and extend the same level of cooperation to his successor.
The incoming Comptroller, Ben Oramalugo, outlined the core responsibilities of customs officers, which include revenue generation, trade facilitation, and the prevention of smuggling. He affirmed his commitment to upholding these mandates and encouraged all officers to provide him with the same level of cooperation they had shown to his predecessor. Oramalugo expressed his belief that through teamwork and dedication, the command could achieve its objectives and reach even greater heights.
