Victor Osimhen, the Nigerian striker, has been awarded the prestigious Best African Player accolade at the Ghana Football Awards, surpassing the likes of Riyadh Mahrez and Mohammed Salah.
Osimhen, 24, showcased exceptional performance last season, scoring a remarkable 31 goals across various competitions, contributing significantly to Napoli’s triumph in securing the Serie A title after a prolonged three-decade interval.
The Super Eagles forward has been enjoying a phenomenal season as a professional player, earning numerous awards and setting new records. His most recent achievement was unveiled at the Ghana Football Awards ceremony.
Expressing his gratitude through an online video, Osimhen extended his appreciation to the organizers for the recognition and vowed to bring honor to Africa.

“I am truly privileged to receive this award, and it is indeed a great honor. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all those who voted for me and provided their support. During the previous season, the former Lille striker netted an impressive total of 31 goals across various competitions for Napoli, instrumental in securing their title after a 33-year gap. Furthermore, he made a significant impact for the Super Eagles, scoring twice in the crucial match against Sierra Leone, leading Nigeria to qualify for the upcoming AFCON in Ivory Coast.
Osimhen’s outstanding performance throughout the season earned him the top scorer award, with a remarkable tally of 26 goals, as well as breaking the longstanding record held by former World Player of the Year, George Weah, for the highest number of goals by an African player in Serie A history.
Notably, he was also honored as the league’s best striker and is considered a strong contender for the prestigious Best Player award at this year’s CAF awards.
