Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have embarked on a massive protest in Ikeja, the Lagos State capital.
The protest currently held is in solidarity with the strike action of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
However, the protesters also used the opportunity to beam more light on other issues affecting the nation.
The protesters carried placards with several inscriptions such as ‘Stop importation of petrol, refine the refineries,’ ‘Nigeria at 60 years of independence, more hunger in the land,’ etc.
Another placard read:
Reduce the cost of governance now, save the masses from poverty and hunger.

Meanwhile, the security operatives have surrounded the Lagos State Government Secretariat ahead of today’s planned protest by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).
NLC had on Monday called on members and civil society groups in Lagos State to come out en-masse on Tuesday morning to begin the two-day protest in solidarity with striking lecturers.
Mrs Funmi Sessi, Lagos state chairman of NLC gave the directive at a stakeholders’ meeting at the union’s secretariat in Yaba, Lagos state.
Sessi said that the exercise was ready to hold on Tuesday and Wednesday as part of the nationwide action.
She said:
We will be converging as early as 6:30 a.m. at Ikeja and take off by 7.00 a.m. to deliver a letter to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu in Alausa.
The protest is to support ASUU in the ongoing strike, so we call on all affiliate members to come out en masse.
However, as of the time of filing this report, the protesters are yet to reach the secretariat but security officials are on the ground to monitor the protest.
A police officer who spoke to PM News under the condition of anonymity said the presence of the security operatives was to maintain law and order and not to harass protesters.
