As part of measures to maintain operations, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved a flat rate increase of N100 in bus fares for all Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and standard routes.
According to reports, the increase, which is set to start on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, aims to ensure the sustainability of the BRT and standard route schemes.
Kolawole Ojelabi, LAMATA’s assistant director of corporate communication, who made the announcement yesterday, explained that the transport system’s operations had recently been hampered by rising costs for the inputs needed to provide sustainable service offerings and the consequently high number of buses that were out of commission due to a lack of spare parts.

For instance, the exponential increase in the pump price of diesel from N187 to N830/litre between August 2020 and June, 2022, had greatly affected optimal performance of the bus operating companies leading to the withdrawal of buses from operation and longer waiting time at bus stations.
New Rates
Buses from Ikorodu to TBS will now cost N600 instead of N500 when the new rates go into effect, and buses from Berger to Ajah will now cost N700 instead of N600. The fare from Oshodi to Abule Egba will increase from N350 to N450, and the fare from Abule Egba to CMS-Obalende will be N600.
