President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to ensure the enrolment of corps members in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim, said on Monday.
Ibrahim who stated this during a media chat with Bureau Chiefs, Media Executives and Correspondents which held in Abuja, also assured that the NYSC has intensified liaison with security agencies for to ensure the security of corps members wherever they are serving in the country.
According to him, with the annual mobilisation of over 300,000 corps members, the NYSC no doubt, “remains the most critical platform for mentoring Nigerian youths as drivers of national unity and development.”
Ibrahim said:
I wish to use this opportunity to again express our gratitude to the security agencies and other stakeholders for their support. Furthermore, the scheme has concluded arrangement with the NHIS for the enrolment of corps members into the NHIS in line with a presidential directive. We have also expended huge resources on critical health needs of corps members, including footing of medical bills.

Buhari’s directive comes as the NYSC mobilised 66,000 eligible graduates to participate in the 2020 Batch B service year.
Ibrahim, the prospective corps members and course officials are however mandated to undergo the COVID-19 test before admission into the orientation camps set to reopen on Tuesday, November 10, 2020.
The Director-General of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Chikwe Ihekweazu, also appealed to prospective corps members and officials to take personal responsibility and shun complacency, while also saying that the second wave of the virus is inevitable but can be prevented.
