One of Nigeria’s leading insurance firms, LASACO Assurance Plc, has announced to shareholders and the investing public about the resignation of its former Chairman, Mrs Aderinola Disu, as a director on its board, effective from September 8, 2020.
According to a statement at the Nigerian Stock Exchange and signed by Company Secretary/Legal Adviser, Gertrude Olutekunbi, the company also confirmed that the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) had given a provisional approval for the appointment of Dr (Mrs.) Maria Olateju Phillips and Prince Jamiu Adio Saka as non-executive directors.
The statement from the company read:
We wish to inform our esteemed Shareholders and the General Public that our former ChairmanMrs. Aderinola Disu resigned as a Director on the Board of Lasaco Assurance Plc. The resignation takes effect from 8th September 2020.
We wish to also inform all our esteemed Shareholders and the Investing Public that the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has given a provisional approval for the appointment of the following Directors:
- Dr (Mrs.) Maria Olateju Phillips Non-Executive Director
- Prince Jamiu Adio Saka Non-Executive Director
Chief (Mrs) Teju Phillips is a successful Chartered Accountant who holds an ACCA from England and Wales. She speaks Yoruba, English and French fluently. She is a former Director in Keystone Bank; former Director, Lagos State Lottery Board; Honorable Commissioner For Special Duties & Inter-Governmental Relations in Lagos State; she was also the Managing Director of Alma Beach Estate Ltd (a subsidiary of Rims Merchant Bank Ltd); Managing Director, Maridot Ventures Ltd. she is a renowned Management / Financial Consultant to many companies and was at a time, the Divisional Commercial Manager of Property division of the United African Company (UAC) of Nig. Plc.
Prince Jamiu Adio Saka is an accomplished insurance professional having practiced in Canada and Nigeria career wise and now as a Broker spanning over thirty years. He brings to the Board his wealth of experience.

The company was incorporated on 20th December 1979 under the Companies Decree of 1968 and granted License 7th July 1980.
It commenced operations on 1st August 1980 with an authorized and fully paid-up share capital of N500,000.00 but changed its name to LASACO Assurance Plc in July 1988, in compliance with Decree No. 25 of 1988 and became a Public Limited Liability Company (Plc) in 1991.
