Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has sent a clear warning to opposition members in the state, saying that if they want violence, they will get violence.
Obaseki said this on Monday during a media parley as the race for the gubernatorial poll gathers momentum.
According to the governor, nobody has a monopoly of violence and as the principal officer of the state, who has immunity, alongside Philip Shuibu, his deputy, members of the opposition party will be dealt with because, according to him “we are in government.”
Obaseki’s statement follows recent developments in the build up to the election as properties have been reportedly vandalized by members of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) because such properties bore the campaign poster of Governor Obaseki and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Obaseki, in a video, which has gone viral, stated:
Nobody has monopoly of violence. If they want violence, we will show them violence.
If I see anybody, if you see anybody smash any car because my sticker or poster is on the car, let us know and we will show that person that we are in government, we will show them that we are in government.
And I am governor, Philip is deputy governor; we are only two who have immunity in this state. We are the only two people today who have immunity in this state and I am sending a very clear warning…
Recall that Governor Obaseki dumped the APC for the PDP after he was disqualified during the party’s primary election held to decide who would fly the APC’s flag at the gubernatorial poll slated for September 19.
Since joining the PDP, however, several commissioners in Obaseki’s cabinet have resigned their position while several other have pledged their support for the governor’s political foe, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who was the PDP’s candidate when both men took to the poll in 2016.
