Aliko Dangote, the Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian multinational industrial conglomerate, Dangote Group, on behalf of its Board, Management and Staff, has celebrated the founder of the Vanguard Newspaper, Sam Amuka-Pemu, on the occasion of his 85th birthday.
Dangote, in a message to the highly respected journalist who has made his mark in the field of journalism, described Amuka as an icon and reputable role model to young professionals.
The richest man in Africa also prayed that for good health and wisdom for the award-winning journalist, publisher and elder statesman.
The statement read:
Amuka worked as an editor with Daily Times and Sunday Times. He was also the first editor of the Sunday Punch. After a successful career at Sunday Punch, Amuka-Pemu established The Punch with the late Olu Aboderin, in 1971.
Amuka also was a very popular columnist with the Daily Times in the late 1960s and early 1970s. His column entitled “This Nigeria” which he wrote under his pen name “Sad Sam” made Sunday Times a must-read in the country at that time.
