A tragic incident unfolded in Abuja during the late hours of Wednesday as a multi-story complex crumbled due to a torrential rainstorm, resulting in multiple individuals being trapped and an estimated dozen lives tragically lost.
Located in the Garki district of Abuja, the towering structure stands on the bustling Lagos Street, known for its vibrant activity.
According to an eyewitness named Tanko Dabo, who was present at the site in the aftermath of the calamity, the building accommodates numerous residential units, with commercial establishments filling the ground floor.
As recounted by Dabo, the collapse coincided with an intense downpour that commenced around 11:50 pm on Wednesday. He described the distressing scene: “The cacophony of sorrow resounded throughout the area as the building crumbled. There appear to be numerous casualties, with either fatalities or people trapped due to the building’s occupancy.”

He continued, “A sense of helplessness enveloped the surroundings, with cries of panic resonating amidst the unrelenting rainfall.”
Lagos Street in the Garki district is renowned for its lively nightlife, housing an array of restaurants and bars that keep the street animated throughout the nocturnal hours.
Dabo indicated that a significant number of individuals who were situated on the ground floor of the structure are now either entrapped or have tragically lost their lives.
As of the time of this report, it remains unclear whether emergency response units such as the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have arrived at the scene to offer assistance.
