It was reported that Tems was nominated for ‘Best Original Song’, for her feature in “Lift me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Unfortunately, the fast-rising singer lost the award to “NAATU NAATU” from the hit Telugu-language film RRR.

NAATU NAATU made history by becoming the first Indian film song to win an Oscar.

Recall that Rihanna, had released her first new solo song, ‘Lift Me Up’ for the movie, ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ for the first time since her 2016 album, Anti.

The ballad is co-written by Tems, Rihanna, Ludwig Göransson, and the film’s director, Ryan Coogler. It is a tribute to the life and legacy of late Black Panther star, Chadwick Boseman, who died in 2020 after a private battle with colon cancer which he was diagnosed with in 2016.

The singer lose has divided the internet as many noted how NAATU NAATU deserves the win, while others expressed disappointment at the loss.

Despite the loss, Tems can always comfort herself with the Grammys

It was reported on Sunday, February 5th that Tems had broken records as she won her first Grammy award.

The Nigerian singer, who keeps soaring higher and breaking records, had become the first Nigerian female artiste to win a Grammy.

The singer, won the prestigious award at the 65th Grammy award held last night, February 5th, 2023 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Her feature on American rapper, Future’s song, ‘Wait for U’, which also featured Drake earned her the award.

With her newest feat, Tems has beaten Tiwa [email protected], Yemi Alade and other Nigerian female singers to win the prestigious award.
