Victor Osimhen, a striker for Napoli, would receive an additional €260,000 (N120m) if he scores 30 goals for the Parthenopeans in the 2022–23 season, according to Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The 24-year-old recently utilized his contract’s goals bonus when he scored his 20th goal of the year, earning him €130,000. (N64m).
The Nigerian international made a goal in Napoli’s 2-0 Champions League round-of-16 victory against Eintracht Frankfurt to bring his season total for 2022/23 to 20 and earn the €130,000 prize (N63.6m).
Osimhen, who has 21 goals and four assists in 25 appearances for the Naples-based team this season, has been crucial in helping Napoli keep their position atop Serie A.
The Napoli star has a clause in his contract that will see him receive an extra €130,000 if he scores 25 goals and an additional €130,000 if he scores 30 goals this season.
“He (Osimhen) has already hit his first contractual bonus, which included a €130,000 bonus upon reaching 20 goals. But at this rate, Victor risks making blows because the same figure starts at the 25th and also at the 30th goals,” La Gazzetta hello Sport stated.
“Objectives that become decidedly within the reach of a great striker who has achieved these 21 goals in just 25 games. There are at least 15 challenges ahead and probably they can become 17, dreaming of being able to reach 20, which would mean going to play the Champions League final in Istanbul.”
Osimhen has at least 15 games left this season to score 30 goals, and he intends to do it given his recent goal-scoring trend and physical condition.
The Nigerian, who has scored nine goals overall, nine goals in his past eight Serie A appearances, 19 goals in his previous 20 league games, and 21 goals altogether, might win the Partenopei their first Scudetto in more than three decades.
After Napoli paid LOSC Lille €75 million and added a few players to the deal, the total cost rose to over €80 million in 2021, making Osimhen the most expensive African player in history.
The second-youngest player to score in eight straight Serie A games, according to Opta, is the guy who scored against Empoli.
“Victor Osimhen became the second youngest player (24 years, 58 days) in the three points for a win era to find the net in eight Serie A games in a row, behind only Roberto Muzzi (23 years, 165 for Cagliari in 1995). Unstoppable.”
Osimhen had scored in his previous seven league games, and he was looking to add to his tally and he did just that 28th minutes into the game to grab Napoli’s second goal after Empoli defender Ardian Ismajli had put the ball in his own net in the 17th minute.
