The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) reported that the reason passengers encountered delays on Monday along the Abuja-Kaduna train line was a lack of diesel needed to operate its rolling equipment.
This was revealed in a statement published on Monday night by Mr Pascal Nnorli, Manager, Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS).
The NRC stated that its laboratory testing rejected the provided fuel because it lacked the necessary requirements. In December 2022, the average price of fuel in the North-Central area was N824.87 per litre.
According to the statement, the available supply was also denied due to lab tests that fell short of criteria. They stated:
“The management of the NRC sincerely apologises to our esteemed customers who may have experienced a delay in our Abuja-Kaduna train service on Monday, Jan. 23.
“The delay was caused by the supply of diesel and AGO, which fell short of the specification required to operate our rolling stock, which was out rightly rejected after statutory laboratory test.
“The compulsory laboratory test is carried out on all liquid that is used on the rolling stock, locomotives inclusive to ensure that the right specifications are utilized.”
