Kanu: Standing of surety needless, IPOB tells Soludo

The Indigenous People of Biafra has hailed the recent call by the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo for the unconditional release of the IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in detention since 2021.

The pro-Biafran group said while they welcome the development, they noted that the issue of granting of bail or standing surety does not arise at this time because the

Federal Government has breached the order of a superior court of competent jurisdiction.

The group emphasised that Kanu had been discharged on October 13, 2022, by the court of appeal and do not have any need for surety because there is no charge hanging on him as of today.

They stated these in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, on Monday. Read more here

Refusal to release Kanu plot against Ndigbo – Lawyer

Aloy Ejimakor, a special counsel for the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has accused the Federal Government of having “a sinister plot against Ndigbo” for not releasing Kanu from detention.

Ejimakor, who said this in a tweet posted to his Twitter page on Monday, alleged that there was a hidden agenda to put “Ndigbo between a rock and a hard place” as Nigeria matches to the poll in 2023.

He tweeted, “It’s becoming self-evident that the refusal to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is part of a sinister plot against Ndigbo. The hidden agenda is to put Ndigbo between a rock & a hard place as Nigeria farcically careens into the 2023 elections. The good news is that it will boomerang. Yes!” Read more here

Biafra News: Nnamdi Kanu’s American Lawyer Write Buhari, See What He Told Him (READ FULL TEXT)

On Friday, Bruce Fein, the international attorney for Nnamdi Kanu, the imprisoned head of the illegal Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), requested that President Muhammadu Buhari follow the Working Group’s directive and quickly free his client.

The American constitutional attorney said in a letter that President Buhari is denying Kanu of his freedom and infringing on 16 international human rights agreements as a result. Read more here…

Kanu Absent As Court Prolongs Trial Indefinitely

On Monday, a team of government prosecutors led by the Director of Public Prosecution, Mr. M.B. Abubakar, claimed that Nnamdi Kanu, the jailed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, failed to appear before the Federal High Court in Abuja for his scheduled re-arraignment.

“My lord, I understand that the defendant declined to come to court today.

“As of last week, the defendant was intimated of this sitting and he did not object. However, when I called the office this morning, I was informed that the defendant woke up and declined to come to court.

“All entreaties and pleas were made but he refused to come to court”, the government lawyer told the court.

Kanu’s legal team, however, said the allegation was strange as Kanu had never hidden his intention to always be in court.

“My lord, this is totally strange to me because this is a person that has never hidden his intention to always be in court. In fact, even in processes we filed at both the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, the defendant said he would want to be present in court for hearing of all the matters,” Kanu’s legal team head, Mike Ozekhome, SAN, said.
