There are palpable fears in Delta State of imminent disruption of oil production in five major production fields of Chevron Nigeria Limited as impeccable sources indicate that indigenous Community contractors are mobilizing for action against CNL for deliberate refusal to release funds for payment of contractors.
The plot of the aggrieved contractors is to simultaneous protest and disrupt Chevron operations in Olero, Abiteye, Dibi, Omadino and Ugborodo till they release appropriate payments for the jobs done by all contractors in the 2021 circle projects awarded under the Itsekiri Regional Development Committee ( I.R.D.C).
According to the contractors as posited by Mr. Omeresan Uwale, “at the time these jobs were awarded in July 2022, Chevron declined the traditional release of guaranteed mobilization and insisted that all contractors source their funds to execute the projects and that payment will be made promptly. Trusting in this position, we all went for loans in the black market with obnoxious conditions. Now we are trapped.
Yet Chevron is holding back our payments which in the first place is meant to be from communities’ funds being held in trust by them. They shall know no piece, no retreat, no surrender until they pay us for the exact milestones we have invested loans on”
