The Metropolitan Police disclosed it has arrested Nigeria’s former deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and Wife, Nwanneka Ekweremadu for conspiring to traffic a child from Nigeria to the UK to cut-off its private part.
Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55, and Ike Ekweremadu, 65 have been charged with conspiracy to arrange or facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.
Thegistday learnt that, the chlid in question whose gender, age is yet to be disclosed has been safeguarded and the Ekweremadus had been remanded in custody
The couple will be appearing in court in Uxbridge later on Thursday, June 23, 2022. and it is likely they were held at the nearby Heathrow Airport.
The investigation into child trafficking was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022.
The Presidency has described the most recent church attacks in Owo, Ondo State, and the southern part of Kaduna State as “planned and politically motivated criminal outrages,” noting that it would not be distracted by such intrigues.
