Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, has withdrawn from the governorship primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Director-General of Ikeoha Campaign Organisation (ICO), Charles Asogwa, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
ICO is the campaign organisation of Mr Ekweremadu.
Mr Asogwa said:
We wish to inform our supporters and Nigeria that the former deputy president of the senate and foremost governorship aspirant in Enugu State, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, will not be participating in the PDP governorship primary election scheduled for this Wednesday, May 25, 2022.
Although no reason was given for the withdrawal of the lawmaker, it is not unconnected with the existing cold war with Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and the leadership of the state chapter of the PDP over the battle for the party’s governorship ticket in the state.
Ekweremadu’s withdrawal came just a few hours to Wednesday’s governorship primaries of the party in the state.
