Emefiele Seeks Court Ruling To Run For President As CBN Governor
The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emiefele has told a Federal High Court in Abuja that he can run for the post of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria without vacating his position as the CBN Governor.
The CBN Governor through his Counsel, Mike Ozekhome, told the court that Section 84 ((12) of the Electoral Act as amended, 2022 does not affect him, being a public servant and not a political appointee.
Arguing an exparte motion filed due to the urgency of the matter, Ozekhome said his client is the current CBN governor and he is interested in running for the office of the president of the country in the election scheduled for February next year.
Northern Coalition Purchases APC Presidential Forms For Jonathan
A coalition of Northern groups on Monday arrived at the International Conference Centre in Abuja to purchase the All Progressives Congress’ presidential nomination and expression of interest forms for former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Sporting fez caps with the inscription ‘run Jonathan run’, members of the coalition said Jonathan is the most qualified to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.
Although Jonathan isn’t a member of the APC, speculations have intensified in recent weeks that he is set to switch from the Peoples Democratic Party to contest for President in 2023.
N100m Nomination Form: PDP Accuses APC Of Stealing Government Funds For Elections
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Muhammadu Buhari Presidency of allowing the alleged mass looting of public funds to corruptly create a war chest for the APC to intimidate Nigerians and muscle the 2023 general elections.
The PDP in a statement on Tuesday claimed that the All Progressives Congress is diverting public funds meant for development purposes and salaries of workers to its coffers by orchestrating the purchase of its presidential nomination form by all manner of persons at an excessive N100 million to warehouse sleaze funds for the elections
PDP Spokesman, Hon. Debo Ologunagba asserted that the party has information on how public funds are being withdrawn from ministries, agencies, and parastatals of government and diverted to people who have no verifiable means of livelihood to purchase APC’s Presidential Nomination and Expression of Interest forms for individuals without any electoral value and who cannot even win local government elections.
Osinbajo, Tinubu, Others Submit Nomination Forms At APC Secretariat
The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, have submitted their presidential nomination and expression of interest forms.
This comes as the ruling party extends the deadline for the submission of nomination and expression of interest forms by aspirants seeking various elective offices .
Professor Osinbajo and Tinubu – a former governor of Lagos State – were among other party faithful who submitted their forms on Wednesday at the APC Secretariat in Abuja ahead of the party’s primaries.
Ngige Withdraws From Presidential Race
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige has withdrawn from the race to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
He announced his withdrawal from the contest in a statement in Abuja.
Ngige’s announcement followed a valedictory session held at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in the nation’s capital, in honour of ministers seeking elective offices in the 2023 general elections.
PDP Blasts Emefiele Over ‘Heart Attack’ Comment, Insists He Can’t Continue As CBN Governor
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned as reckless, irresponsible, and unpardonable, the comment by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, that he is “having a lot of fun” in his actions which are in violation of the CBN Act 2007 and the Public Service Rules.
According to PDP’s spokesman, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, this comment by Emefiele, who also stated that Nigerians can go ahead and “have heart attack” over the widespread anxiety in the country arising from his involvement in partisan politics, is provocative and enough to trigger a nation-wide restiveness, pitch Nigerians against the CBN, shut down the economy and destabilize the polity.
The PDP in its statement on Saturday asserted that despite Emefiele’s alleged withdrawal from the presidential race “due to the pressure by our party, he still cannot continue as CBN Governor having become partisan as a card-carrying member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Akwa Ibom Government has debunked claims suggesting that Governor Udom Emmanuel is blocking Atiku Abubakar, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant from meeting delegates.
In a statement, the Commissioner for Information, In Ememobong, said the governor is not barring the former vice president from meeting with the party’s faithful.
