An irate mob in Sokoto State has set ablaze a Christian female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Wamako, multiple sources confirmed today.
The deceased, identified only as Ms Deborah, was accused of passing unflattering comments about Prophet Mohammed on campus.
Following immediate threats to her safety, she was immediately evacuated to the security post of the school, according to a student who witnessed the development and passed its preliminary details to The Gazette. But the mob pursued her to the security post and overpowered the personnel there.
Sokoto police spokesman, Sanusi Abubakar, declined comments about the incident, reports stated.
Authorities have issued a statement announcing immediate closure of the school over the fracas that broke out following Ms Deborah’s murder.
Meanwhile, the State Government has issued a state directing the school authority to commence an investigation on the root cause of the tragedy.
The State Government, thereby pleaded for calm as the case is handled by relevant authorities.
In the meantime, Nigerians have condemned the brutal murder of the Christian lady while several others have been divided along religious lines.
In their description of the sad event, some Christians, who took to Twitter moments later, said it was one death too many. They called for justice to be meted on the perpetrators of the act.
