Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, on Saturday, said that Southwest governors are working behind the scene to secure the release of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho.
Igboho was arrested alongside his wife in Cotonou, Benin Republic, last Monday, while he was about to board a plane to Germany. His wife has since been released.
Sanwo-Olu, who fielded questions from newsmen, was asked what the Southwest governors were doing to secure the release of Igboho.
The governor replied that they were working behind the scenes for his release.
He said the governors would not be able to come to the public to announce what they are doing on Igboho’s matter.
These are very difficult times for all of us. I can assure you that people are working behind the scenes. On occasions like this, it’s not by how many Press people you call.
I’m aware that a lot of people have responses that they are doing quietly and privately and it doesn’t have to be a public conversation.
Sanwo-Olu’s disclosed the position of the Southwest governors as he voted at his polling unit 019, ward 09, Ikoyi, on Saturday. He described the Local Government poll in the State as peaceful but decried low turnout at the poll.
The governor arrived his polling unit with his wife, Ibijoke, at about 11:03am and voted few minutes later.
Sanwo-Olu said the beauty of democracy was for people to express themselves openly through the ballot box.
He stressed the need for more advocacy to educate the people on the need to always exercise their rights by voting.
