The outgoing President of the United States, Donald Trump, has revealed plans to start a new political party, called the Patriot Party.
Reports emanating from the US have it that Trump, who leaves the White House today, is preparing to dump the Republican Party.
A senior aide to the outgoing President said that Trump is not happy with Senate Republicans following the general outcome of the US presidential election, which saw Joe Biden finish as winner.
Another senior adviser confirmed Trump’s move to start another political party but added that the idea may not be serious.
Meanwhile, another Trump adviser, who also spoke on the development, was quoted as saying that the prospect of launching a new party was “lame.”
It is, however, not clear how determined Trump is to float his own political party.
Recall that Trump, in his farewell message, had vowed that his movement will carry on.
The Wall Street Journal first reported Trump’s interest in a new party, saying he would call it the “patriot party.”
Trump lost the US November 3, 2020 presidential election to Democratic candidate, Joe Biden, who will be sworn-in today.
The last days of Trump’s stay in office were marred by controversies as the US Congress, located at Capitol Hill, was attacked by angry protesters.
He was also taken off social media platforms including Face and Twitter as he was accused of instigating the violence at Capitol Hill that left at least one person dead.
