Nigerians have taken to social media to criticize President Muhammadu Buhari for embarking on a trip to Mali on Thursday.
The criticism came few hours after the announcement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina that he would be going to Bamako.
Adesina stated that Buhari will be going to the Malian capital on a peacekeeping mission.
Adesina wrote:
President Muhammadu Buhari will Thursday depart for Bamako, the Republic of Mali on a one-day visit, following the briefing by the ECOWAS Special Envoy to the country, former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The Nigerian President and some ECOWAS leaders led by the Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the sub-regional organization, President Issoufou Mahamadou of Niger Republic, agreed to meet in Mali to engage in further consultations towards finding a political solution to the crisis in the country.
However, Nigerians faulted the move, saying that the President ought to stay back and end the problem of insecurity currently plaguing the country.
Earlier, President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the killing of five staff of humanitarian agencies in Borno State, who were kidnapped by Boko Haram terrorists a month ago.
A presidential statement issued on Wednesday said President Buhari sympathises with the families of the five aid workers while praying that God will comfort them for their irreplaceable loss.

The statement said:
He assures them that his government will continue to do all it can to ensure that every remaining vestige of Boko Haram is wiped out completely from northeastern Nigeria and that the perpetrators of this atrocity face the law.
President Buhari also condoles with the State Emergency Management Agency, Action Against Hunger, Rich International, and International Rescue Committee, whose staff have suffered this gruesome fate.
He thanks them for their continued dedication and service to the victims of Boko Haram in northeastern Nigeria. He assures them that security agencies in the state will work closely with their organisations to implement measures to ensure that no such kidnapping of staff occurs again.
