Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has been appointed by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to head its campaign council in the governorship election in Edo State.
The party made this known in a statement through Kola Ologbodiyan, its National Publicity Secretary, on Friday, saying that the party named 77 people to serve as members of the committee.
In June, Governor Wike criticised some members of the main opposition’s NWC for benefitting financially from a potential crisis in the Edo chapter of the party.

The South-south governor, according to report, also threatened not to support the aspiration of the incumbent governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki, who recently decamped to the PDP from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), following a rift with the then Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole.
Following Obaseki’s emergence as the candidate of the PDP after winning the party’s primary unopposed, it now appears as though Wike has resolved his problems with the PDP leadership.
PDP’s announcement of its campaign council comes after the APC named Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, to chair its 49-member campaign council.
The PDP also appointed the Adamawa State Governor, Umar Fintiri, as the deputy campaign chairman.
Other members of the committee include all governors who are members of the party, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Senate President David Mark.
Others are ex-Senate President, Bukola Saraki, ex-Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe, ex-Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, ex-Kano governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and ex-Anambra governor, Peter Obi, among others.
The inauguration of the council is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at the party’s secretariat, Abuja.
Obaseki’s main opposition for the September governorship election is Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who contested the 2016 election under the flagship of the PDP.
