Mohammed Adamu, Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, has ordered the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Bolaji Salami, to restore the security details of the state’s deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi, with immediate effect.
The directive was contained in a letter issued to the Ondo Police Commissioner through the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Department of Operations, Force Headquarters Abuja.
A copy of the letter with Ref. No CB: 2002/DOPS/FHQ/ABJ/VOL/77/168 was exclusively received by Nigerian online media outfit Sahara Reporters.
According to reports, the letter was signed on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police through the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mr Austine Agbonlahor.
Recall that Ajayi had last week Wednesday raised the alarm that security details attached to him and his office were withdrawn by the Nigeria Police Force in the state.
The deputy governor also accused the Commissioner of Police of carrying out the action on the instructions of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
Ajayi and the governor of the state, Rotimi Akeredolu, have recently been at loggerhead with both parties refusing to call a truce on their rift even as the state’s gubernatorial election draws close.
Reports also emerged that Ajayi resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and is set to join the governorship race on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
