MultiChoice has announced a new direction for the service that will incorporate Netflix and Amazon Video.
A pioneering deal has been signed between Netflix, Amazon and MultiChoice that will allow for these popular streaming services to be united on one platform. This will be offered through its latest Explora personal video recorder (PVR) decoder.

In a statement detailing their financial results for 2020, Multichoice announced its plan to partner with third-party streaming services.
The Chief Executive Officer, MultiChoice, Calvo Mawela, said:
In addition to compelling local stories, MCG continues to broadcast the best of sport and international content and will now be integrating third-party streaming services onto its DStv platform.
The recently signed distribution agreements with two major international Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) providers will ensure that customers have access to a wider variety of content, all in a single place.
While little is being said about the details, a spokesman said on Wednesday that details on how the move could affect MultiChoice’s monthly fee will be announced in the coming weeks.
In the presentation, MultiChoice also announced that field trials of their upcoming standalone streaming service, DStv Now, have already begun.
On its part, Netflix has also made an effort to produce more African content. Several African movies have debuted on the service this year and they have been supported by extensive marketing campaigns.
The Chief Financial Officer, MultiChoice, Tim Jacobs, stated:
What would typically happen is we would get commission on whatever revenue gets generated by customers coming from our platform.
There is little overlap between content on Showmax, that is now 50% local, and a service like Netflix at the moment, hence we find deals with other video-on-demand services complementary.
In a related development, another deal between pay-TV providers and streaming services have been struck as Sky UK and France’s Canal+ have both reached agreements with Netflix.
