President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), after the expiration of the term of the board members appointed in 2016.
Members of the new Board are Mohammed Lawal (North West), Tajudeen Umar (North East), Adamu Mahmood Attah (North Central), Senator Magnus Abe (South-South), Dr Stephen Dike (South East), and Chief Pius Akinyelure (South West). The new board will be in place for three years.

In 2016, President Muhammadu Buhari, approved the composition of the Board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), as provided for under Section 1(2) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Act of 1997, as amended.
The board included: Chairman- Dr Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum, Group Managing Director- Dr Maikanti Kacalla Baru; the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance.
The board also had Mallam Abba Kyari, Dr Thomas M.A John, Dr Pius O. Akinyelure, Dr Tajuddeen Umar, Mallam Mohammed Lawal, and Mallam Yusuf Lawal.
Meanwhile, this development is coming in the wake of the death of the former Group Managing Director of the outfit, Maikanti Baru, whose demise was made public by the current GMD of NNPC, Mele Kyari.
