The virtual party is modelled after MTV Base show, ‘DJ Takeover with DJ TTB’.
DJ Sose will join DJ TTB to lead several renowned celebrity DJs to entertain the thousands of fans that will join the Instagram Live sessions as they take turns on the wheels of steel.
Speaking on the initiative, Senior Channels Manager, Solafunmi Oyeneye said, “With the COVID-19 pandemic and the resultant urgent need for social distancing, we are reminded that now more than ever, entertainment brands like us have an important responsibility to the society.
“At MTV Base, we are committed to putting a smile on people’s faces and making the situation we all currently find ourselves in as bearable as possible by not just entertaining people but also educating them on the importance of social distancing.”
MTV Base is a 24-hour music channel from ViacomCBS Networks EMEAA. There are three different feeds of MTV Base Africa, with one catering for the South African audience, one for West Africa, and another for the rest of Africa.
Although the channel is fully dedicated to African music, there have been claims that the African feed broadcasts Nigerian music only.
Launched in February 2005 with a live music special with live performances from local African and international artists, MTV Base Africa also promotes MTV Europe and airs some of its reality series.
On 3 July 2013, Viacom International Media Networks Africa launched a localised feed of MTV Base exclusively for South Africa, with local programming, advertising and VJs.
