Alakija’s donation to the fight of the virus is coming a few days after she released 18 prayer points against the virus which broke out in China last year and has since claimed thousands of lives globally.
In a message that accompanied the release of the prayer points, the businesswoman advised members of the public to live uprightly in the face of the different “plagues” confronting the world.
She said: “These are truly the end times in view of all that we have been experiencing worldwide. God’s word is unfailing and cannot change. It has been tried, tested and found true over the years.
“Different plagues and pestilences have always been around.”
Meanwhile, the contribution from the billionaire businesswoman would quench the worries of several Nigerians who fear that the federal government would not be able to deal with the rising case of COVID-19 in the country as new cases keep springing up by the day.
Alakija’s resolve to help battle the continuous spread of the pandemic is coming hours after the Nigerian Government received its share of test kits and protective gears donated to Africa by Chinese business tycoon, Jack Ma.
Earlier, Senator Dino Melaye called on wealthy Nigerians, multinationals, international oil companies, IOCs, and others to financially support the government at all levels.
Making the call in Abuja on Tuesday, Senator Melaye also advised Nigerians not to see the efforts against Coronavirus as a task solely for the government but all hand have to be on deck if the menace has to be curbed.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic, Nigeria, according to updates by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, as of March 25, puts confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria at 46, including one death.
