Persons suspected to be thugs, on Wednesday, stormed the Palace of the Oba of Lagos located at Iga Idugaran, Lagos Island, vandalising vehicles and carting away several artefacts.
The thugs, in a video which has gone viral on the Internet, are seen making away with the staff of office commonly referred to as ‘Opa Ase’.
According to a resident of Lagos Island, the thugs who invaded the palace, were the same ones who set the family home of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu ablaze.
The witness said:
When the thugs went to attack Sanwo-Olu’s father’s home, some of them were shot by the police. This infuriated them and they were able to engage the police in a gun duel and overpower them. The policemen, who are attached to the Adeniji Adele Police Station, quickly made a retreat.
The angry youths made their way to the Palace of the Oba of Lagos. They claim the king is part of the government. The thugs have only been attacking government institutions.
Recall that several persons were killed while others sustained bullet wounds when soldiers opened fire on peaceful protesters at the Lekki toll gate on Tuesday, October 20.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in a statewide broadcast stated that nobody was killed in the shooting even though video evidence showed that at least seven persons were gunned down in cold blood.
Sanwo-Olu stated:
No sitting governor controls the rules of engagement of the military. I have, nonetheless, instructed an investigation into the adopted rules of engagement employed by the officers of the Nigerian Army that were deployed to the Lekki Toll Gate last night.
We are comforted that we have not recorded any fatality against the widespread claims in circulation on social media.
In the mood of the nation at this time, I have directed further that we have an immediate suspension of all state activities for the next three days except those that are connected with the governance of security in the state and the management of the current issue.
